The Kochi University of Technology will offer the CSC-KUT Scholarship Program for the academic years 2023-2024 to reward the talent of Japanese students.
The Kochi University of Technology and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) created this award solely for Chinese students or staff pursuing a doctoral or Ph.D. at KUT. The winners of the scholarship will, depending on the program they select, receive exemptions from entrance and tuition fees, a scholarship of 50,000 yen per month to cover living expenses, and a scholarship of 150,000 yen to cover travel and initial living costs.
In the Asian University Rankings 2023, the Kochi University of Technology, a prefectural university in Tosa Yamada, Japan, is ranked 551-600. The university’s first president, Professor Yasuharu Suematsu, established it in 1997 intending to produce scholars with broad knowledge and extensive and practical skills.

The CSC-KUT Scholarship Program is based on an agreement between the Kochi University of Technology and the China Scholarship Council (CSC). The focus of this program is to allow selected students or staff from Chinese universities/research institutions to take a full doctoral degree program and to allow selected Chinese Ph.D. candidates from Chinese universities/research institutions to conduct the co-supervised doctoral study at KUT in certain research fields closely related to their doctoral theses at Chinese universities/research institutes. If a selected full-time Ph.D. student completes the requirements of the designated Ph.D. program and defends his/her dissertation at KUT, KUT will confer a Ph.D. degree upon the student.

The applicants must have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor’s and master’s degrees from reputable universities in China or other countries.
1. All applicants must have one of the following English scores: TOEFL, IELTS, WSK, or CET.
2. Please check whether or not you meet one of the foreign language criteria set by CSC, such as a CSC passing score on TOEFL iBT95, IELTS6.5, or WSK(PETS-5).

(A) CSC-KUT Scholarship Program ( Full-time Ph.D. students )
(1) Applicants who meet one of the criteria set by CSC:
When you send your application documents (originals), please be sure to enclose a copy of an official document showing your score on one of the applicable English proficiency tests.
(2) Applicants who do not meet any of the criteria but hold a TOEFL iBT 72～94, IELTS5.5～6.0 or CET-6 certificate:

-You will be evaluated if your English ability is recognized as sufficient in the interview with the faculty member scheduled to supervise your studies. If your English ability is recognized as sufficient, KUT will issue an English proficiency certificate for you.
(3) KUT does not accept applications from applicants who do not meet any of the above criteria.
(B) CSC-KUT Scholarship English proficiency certificate program ( Co-supervised Doctoral Study Students )
There is no minimum score requirement but please be sure to enclose a copy of an official document showing your score on one of the applicable English proficiency tests(TOEFL, IELTS, WSK, or CET).

How to Apply: Students interested to apply are required to complete the pre-application online form to be considered.
Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:
Bachelor’s degree academic transcript (original) in English or Japanese
Master’s degree academic transcript (original) in English or Japanese
Master’s degree certificate (original) in English or Japanese
A copy of the intending applicant’s master’s thesis in English
Two signed recommendation letters in English or Japanese

Admission Requirements: The applicants must hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution or hold a degree from an accredited institution in China comparable to the master’s degree offered at KUT.

The Kochi University of Technology will award the following scholarship benefits to the winning students:
For Ph.D. students – Exemption from the 30,000 yen entrance examination fee, the 300,000 yen enrolment fee, and 535,800 yen/year in tuition fees, a scholarship of 50,000 yen/month as support for living expenses, and 150,000 yen for travel expenses and initial living costs.
For Doctoral students – Exemption from the 10,000 yen entrance examination fee, the 50,000 yen enrolment fee, and tuition fees.
